The founders’ African heritage, love of the African culture, artworks and art forms coupled with a
deep understanding of the challenges experienced by artists in Africa is the main inspiration
behind www.Art.africa.
Africa is home to some of the finest creations and works of art in the world but remains grossly
under-represented in the global art scene often due to:
Inadequate exposure
The absence of a single source and comprehensive collection of artworks representing
the continent and its culture
A limited directory, extent of collaboration and interactions amongst its artists
These points amongst others are some of the few agenda items that www.art.africa intends to
change.
The concept for an online platform that brings together artists of African descent and art
buyers/collectors in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world was born out of the founders’
regular trips to Africa, enquiries from friends and interaction with local artists, many of whom are
unable to make a living from their works due to unfair terms by intermediaries and their inability
to promote their works via digital channels.
